This old building is one of the most interesting historical relics in Irvine...a mushroom growth residential city that surrounds the University of California, Irvine. It sits at the intersection of Sand Canyon and the #5 freeway. It is now a combination, La Quinta Motor Hotel, a Mexican Restaurant and a Sports Bar. You are only seeing about one-quarter the length of the building in this photo. It also had surrounding it a great number of interesting buildings...Irvine Ranch forman living in cottages, a blacksmith shop, an old two story western hotel, an old garage and a general store with a one room post office...all designated as East Irvine. I photographed this complex with a 4x5 camera to document the area in the late 1980's for future generations to see. That body of work is now being held in the Special Collections of the University of California, Irvine Library.
